Online shoppers shop at work shock

From the drawer marked “Stating the obvious” comes research commissioned by the Royal Mail into the shopping habits of Internet users who browse teh Interweb at work. InternetRetailing.net reports that two thirds of people who have Internet access at work are “likely to buy during the week”.

Also off the stating-the-obvious scale was the finding that “1pm on a Friday is the most popular time”. Monday and Wednesday are also good days for shopping from work, as “employees use online shopping to deal with the post-weekend and mid-week blues”.

And, if I’m allowed to chip in, I’d also hazard that Tuesday and Thursday are popular too, maybe with people who always have a lunch meeting on Wednesday or prefer to spend Friday lunchtime down the boozer rather than hunched over the bestsellers on Amazon.

The reports authors also observed that online shopping is popular in the evening when (get this) the shops are closed. And that the single most popular purchase is downloadable music, closely followed by gifts. You amaze me.

“This research emphasises just how popular online shopping has become, with shoppers realising that online retail fits around their busy lives,” said Catherine Campbell, head of multi-channel retail at Royal Mail.

No shit, Sherlock. And you had to pay someone money to find that out for you?
